Lower Back Pain

The most common cause of low back pain is joint dysfunction. This happens when a joint in the spine is either “stuck” or is not properly aligned. Joint dysfunction occurs in the spine more than any other joint in the body.

Yes. The two most common spine surgeries are spinal fusion and micro-discectomy. Spinal fusion is a procedure which "locks" two or more bones of the spine together, causing those joints to no longer move. This strictly limits movement in the area where the fusion has been occurred. We use passive therapies and therapeutic exercise to help improve flexibility and range of motion, since the real issue lies in the areas above and below the location of the surgery.

Approximately 85% of people who have a spinal fusion procedure will undergo degenerative changes above and below the surgical area. Oftentimes, patients will encounter pain at these adjacent spine levels. That’s where we come in! Chiropractic treatments can enable these joints to maintain proper spacing and function, thus reducing progressive pain and avoiding subsequent surgery.

Generally, we are opposed to the widespread use of spine surgery as a whole. The American College of Orthopedic Physicians states that “78% of spine surgeries should not have occurred.” Also, medical studies indicate that spine surgery has a high failure rate - as much as 85% within 2-5 years following the procedure.

Certainly, there is a time and a place for spine surgery, even though it is prescribed too often. To support this notion, we have referred only 57 out of more than 17,000 patients for spine surgery over 30 years of providing chiropractic treatments to a multitude of patients.

Children, just like adults, can also have spine-related issues... they fall, play sports, and "rough-house." In short, they get injured. Childbirth is physically traumatic, and as a result can lead to injury of the child. Our youngest patient was 6 weeks old, presenting with labor-induced torticollis. In this case, three treatments of gentile, manipulative techniques were applied and the child was 100% back to normal and able to avoid a lifetime of physical issues.

We regularly treat pregnant patients. Let's not mince words... pregnancy is rough on one's body! As a matter of fact, studies have shown that pregnancies are the most difficult natural physiological event for human beings to endure. We're here to help to ensure your pregnancy won't take a severe, long-term toll on your body. Please call us to learn more about how we can help!

Throughout pregnancy, the lower back tends to arch more, the pelvis tilts forward, and downward pressure causes joints in the spine to jam together. Additionally, the discs in between the spinal bones feel the effects of the additional downward pressure and can sometimes bulge, thereby placing pressure on the joints and spinal nerves.

Various therapies, such as electrical stimulation and cold or heat therapy can produce significant relief. Also, chiropractic joint manipulation can reposition the bones to take pressure off of joints and discs to help relieve pain and discomfort.

The wonderful thing about these therapies is that they have been available and successfully used for treating pregnant patients since the mid 1900s - all without drugs or surgeries. By simply applying chiropractic techniques, we can help make pregnancy more tolerable, so please contact us to learn more.

Chiropractic medicine is a branch of medicine focusing on orthopedic and mechanical conditions of the body. Chiropractic was established in the United States during the late 1800s. Like all areas of medicine, it has  scientifically and clinically developed over time by many practitioners around the world.

During the 1970s, chiropractic medicine was included as a component of traditional medicine, and insurance providers began covering chiropractic services. This is because the insurance industry recognized how safe, inexpensive, and effective chiropractic medicine had become.

Coverage for such services has grown exponentially ever since.

Scientific research continues to support that chiropractic medicine is a remarkably safe and effective treatment for neuromusculoskeletal conditions, beyond just spine-related conditions. Chiropractic medicine is able to treat many conditions in all areas of the body, including hips, knees, feet, arms, shoulders, and elbows.

Absolutely! Chiropractors are highly trained with the primary objectives of evaluating, diagnosing and treating medical conditions.

When compared with traditional medicine and adverse effects statistics, chiropractic medicine consistently demonstrates extremely high safety margins. The most common adverse effect with chiropractic care is soreness, much like exercising in the gym. In contrast, traditional medications, surgical procedures, and injectables (i.e. epidurals) carry significantly higher risk to the patient than what chiropractic medicine can provide.

One study stated Chiropractic Medicine is statistically safer than taking aspirin.

Chiropractic education requires undergraduate training and a graduate degree, a Doctorate in Chiropractic Medicine. Chiropractors are required to be Board Certified in Chiropractic Medicine and receive a chiropractic professional license. A chiropractic physician because of extensive medical based training, can evaluate, diagnose, and treat medical conditions, including orthopedic and neurologic conditions, as well as perform physical examinations and diagnostic testing, such as ordering MRI's, CT scans, plain film x-rays, and laboratory evaluations.
